Travel Tips - Women
Personal safety – hitchhiking is risky. Avoid
wandering around unfamiliar areas on your own, especially
after dark. If you require assistance, ask couples
or older people rather than young (particularly groups)
men. Without being too rigid, plan your itinerary
and transport to avoid spending excessive periods
at transport terminals.
Hygiene - if visiting more remote areas, ensure you
have adequate supplies of feminine hygiene products,
including for yeast infections.
Clothing – some places expect women to dress
conservatively. This may mean wearing a scarf, long
skirt and keeping your arms covered. Know what is
expected by local customs and mores. Err on the side
of caution, not confrontation.
Accommodation – find out if there is a YWCA
or an equivalent organization with accommodation.
Ensure you can lock your room from the inside. If
you have to share a room, guard your valuables.
