- Write out a budget and keep to it – unplanned splurges wreck plans
- Keep toothbrush & paste or mouthwash accessible for long trips
- Pack small fragile items inside spare shoes
- Use small change to buy snacks when crossing borders
- Don’t fall asleep on public transport – when you wake you may have been separated from your purse or wallet
- Be careful of making phone calls from hotel rooms–added fees can be huge
- Safe deposit boxes – only use those where you have the combination lock or key.
- Never leave valuables with a hotel employee for safekeeping
- Never hand over your passport when registering at your accommodation
